The Judgment (Feather and Bone: The Crow Chronicles) ReviewThis conclusion to Martini's Feather and Bone - The Crow Chronicles trilogy (The Mob, 2004; The Plague, 2005) starts in mid-action with Kyp leading his newly formed flock of young renegade crows on a desperate flight from the East Coast across America, barely ahead of despotic rival Kuper's pursuing flock of a hundred thousand deadly crows. Kyp's only hope is to reach the Urkana, a legendary flock of over a million crows on Canada's Great Plains, and gain the support of the crow elders in his belief that crows should continue to live as independent birds rather than becoming parasites dependent upon humans like the pigeons.
Feather and Bone is a brisk fantasy in the tradition of Adams' Watership Down. Martini gives the crows a language and mythology of their own that is clever, although a bit confusing in its overuse of names beginning with the letter K. However, readers should definitely start with the first novel, The Mob, instead of jumping into the trilogy with this conclusion. The Judgment (Feather and Bone: The Crow Chronicles) Overview
